If you are looking for the perfect blend of heightened awareness offered by Eastern masters—without the confusing terminology—we welcome you. Instead, we use body awareness andd Western concepts such as Self-Love, Feeling, Intuition, Sensation, and Consciousness—supported by diverse teachings such as Jungian Psychology. Our aim is fostering knowledge of the self, not tearing down the ego.
How It Works: Our meditative journey begins with the body, breath, and sensation.
You may have heard people say, I feel out of my body. The mind can be anywhere and sometimes we forget to look within.
What you find within may be pleasing or unpleasant.
Regulating and deepening the breath and engaging in foundational body scans inevitably regulates the feelings.
FEELING AWARENESS
Feeling Awareness can then be used to further calm the mind and gain access to inner silence. We invite students to try translating thoughts into feelings. This can often drastically change to story of inner dialogue.
The wandering mind is called into deeper relationship iwith the body’s natural foundation utilizing additional tools for self-regulation such as Grounding (Gravity Awareness) and The Inner Smile—a method of harnessing the essence of your own positive energy within.
In short, the mind becomes one with the body as balance is attained. Natural Strength is a result of this primary union and experience of balance.
SELF-LOVE
Once some semblance of mind-body balance is attained, we indulge in what we can call a type of higher awareness—something we can all relate to, Love. Love can be a charged term, most often signifying the intense relationships between people. The type of love we explore, however, is Self-Love. Some meditation practices call it Self-Compassion.
Yes, it can feel hard to love yourself sometimes. It gets easier with practice! In the meantime, we offer students a more neutral concept that might be easier to attain, Understanding. To love is to understand.
(You guessed it. When we can love ourselves, we can offer genuine love to others, free from expectations or cultural limits. This is how a personal meditation practice can bring true love to your life and improve relationships.)
At this stage, now that body awareness, feeling, and breath are somewhat regulated, we might start exploring visualization. It feels great to simply love and accept the moment and all it brings. You can also spur on your experience of blissful love or the neutrality of true understanding with images you consciously conjure up in the mind and body. You might imagine being in a sacred cave, or a healing natural pool that transmits the essence of your loving awareness. You might also draw up a personal mandala within the heart, a four-sided temple that serves to express the feeling and vision of the human heart.
The journey does not end here...
Please take our full classes, up to 45 minutes long for the full expression of the mediation cycle.
In the final stages of this activation you are invited to call on your own inner wisdom, inner voice, and intuition. There are no rules as to how your inner self will communicate to you. Inspiration may come in the form of an image, an inner story, or vast scenery within the mind’s eye. It may come as a word. It may come as silence.
Only you will know.
Visualization
Finally, we invite students to endulge in pure Visualization, having patiently balanced the body, the sensations, the emotions, and the heart. In the space of Visualization, a vision just might arrise of its own. You might enjoy a display of nebulous inner consciouness. You might enjoy emptiness. Emptiness that gives way to fullness.
In the space of Visualization, you might create an image of your choosing that represents wholeness, the fulfillment of your true desire, love, or wisdom. Flowers, mandalas, and geometric shapes are common symbols of wholeness or union with the self.
A pinacle invitation is to envision yourself as light—the light of consciousness. This invitation is a way to embody your essence. We invite you to choose your vibration, to get to know yourself and your inner tone much like a note of music—or a chord for that matter. The metaphor extends to color, as an artists choses any combination of the visual light spectrum to express inner vision.
In advanced courses we do teach what some have called Manifestation. This is simply visualizing, in specific detail, a specific desired outcome. Olympic Champions have used similar methods in training. Scientific research shows that envisioning an action, much like dreaming it, creates neural and nervous system pathways that mimic those created when you actually do those things. Yes, you can get better at tennis by imagining or dreaming about playing tennis! It’s a fact.
Miracles do happen.
About Manifestation
The Olympic Champion values hard work and training, while also taking down time to repair and nuture the body and mind. The miracle manifests just beyond the vortex of vision and intense training.
However, many meditators have experienced results attained after visualizations that reflect one’s true desire. A vision-board of a desired new home ends up matching more or less exactly the house you find in real life.
You will that a thing happens and it does happen. However, sometimes we aren’t ready for our heart’s desire to manifest. The mansifestation comes right to our door but we don’t open it. Maybe we are afraid to shine. Or maybe we are afraid of the responsibility such and honor naturally requires.
It’s also important to truly know yourself, ensuring that in your visualization you aren’t asking your inner-self for what you think you should have—the list of what all the haves have and have-not’s don’t.
WHERE LAW OF ATTRACTION TEACHINGS FAIL
However, the Law of Attraction teachings fail to teach a critical element that makes Creative Goal-Setting and Visualization really work. I’ll give you a hint, it’s a method Michael Phelps uses to “beat the odds” and get gold medals.
Of course, meditation doesn’t have to be about influencing physical outcomes…
Some of us have all we need and we attained it with good old fashioned hard work.
If that’s you, the most important thing meditation can offer, and what I can promise, is a Personal Sanctuary. This offers a time and space just for you. This offers real relief.
I like to think of meditation as reboot. Everything just works better when I meditate. Sure, sometimes I don’t have time for a 40-minute meditation. That’s when our 5-Meditation Methods come in handy.
Eventually you find, wherever you are, whether its a crowded subway, or a wild music festival, you can always take a break, breathe, ground, and get in touch with your balanced, fulfilled sense of self.
I promise this!
OUR METHOD
OLA Guides approaches meditation with a balance of East and West.
-
By learning how to focus the mind, visualization allows the thinking mind to hone in on a deeper level of image and symbol, transcending discomfort and boredom.
-
Feeling is our ability to weigh and measure our experience. We focus on sensation and the breath, moving on to guaging our emotional balance-point, otherwise known as feeling. This is the foundation.
-
Unifying mind, body, and your internal source of creative inspiration gives you a fresh start. It is both the goal of mediation and a springboard into creativity and goal-oriented action.
Why Meditate?
-
On a foundational level, meditation decreases stress and anxiety, offering health benefits that include lower blood pressure and improved mental health.
-
Meditation can offer you new vistas for envisioning your life and personal goals. Visualization is a tool used by business leaders and elite athletes alike for mental rehearsal, confidence-building, and even building neural pathways that enhance real-world actions.
-
Regular meditation practice can enhance attention span and increase the ability to concentrate on tasks.
-
Practicing meditation can improve sleep quality and help with insomnia by promoting relaxation and reducing racing thoughts.
-
Meditation can lead to improvements in mood and emotional health, reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.
-
Yes! Self-reflection and awareness of your innermost thoughts and feelings fosters personal growth. It makes you better at relating to yourself and others. Knowledge of self can create an irresistible magnetism. In relationships, increased empathy, reduced negative reactivity, and emotional regulation are always good things. Meditation is proven to help.
-
Healing the world starts within. When you take the time to get to know your inner world, balancing and releasing negativity you’ve picked up due to outer influence or repetitive habits, you return to the world with a refreshed attitude that can actually have a ripple effect in others.
